Did you know that 93% of secondary school students in the UK go to state schools? In 2018 the university of Exeter had the third-lowest proportion of state school students in the UK.
So what does social mobility mean exactly?
Social mobility is the movement of individuals or families between different social classes. The UK has the worst social mobility rating as measured by intergenerational earnings elasticity. This means we have worse social mobility than the US.
These figures show exactly why social mobility is so important!
Our society alongside the upReach charity aims to even out the playing field by providing students from less advantaged backgrounds with personal development and career support. Our society also runs socials for students at Exeter so that you can meet like-minded students from similar backgrounds and creating a safe space for students to share and discuss any concerns, thoughts, and opinions.
If you have any questions or queries regarding the society please feel free to message our Facebook page or email the society directly.
