About Us

Aims and Objectives:

  1. To keep classical music alive in the university.
  2. To perform at least one concert at the end of each university term.
  3. To give all members the opportunity to play professional repertoire under the guidance of a professional conductor.
  4. To give this service to the university via affordable prices at concerts for students and the wider community.

We are a full symphony orchestra which put on three concerts a year (one each term).

We benefit from a professional conductor, Tim Pithers, and with his experience and knowledge we are able to play a wide range of music.

From Beethoven, Shostakovich and Dvorák to contemporary pieces commissioned for the orchestra, we are always playing exciting repertoire and often employ professional soloists. We always round off the summer with either a traditional ‘Proms Concert’ or a less traditional "Film Music" concert. Wind, brass and the front desks of strings are auditioned and we would encourage anyone interested to try out.

We rehearse once a week on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 in Kay House and would love to see you there!

Please contact our President, Laura, for more information on lgp204@exeter.ac.uk
