Diwali, or Deepavali, celebrates the triumph of light over dark, and is known as the festival of lights-due to the lighting of small clay lamps. It marks the start of the new year in Hindu and Jain calendar, and is celebrated by eating traditional sweets, and bursting fire crackers!
During Diwali, we pay our respects, and perform a puja in honor of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and fortune, and Ganapti Bappa, remover of obstacles, and god of auspicious occasions. Houses are colored with rangoli patterns, and filled of friends and family spreading their good wishes.
Come join campus celebrations on Sunday, November the 11th, we promise great Indian food, beautiful South Asian clothing for you to try on, some awesome dance performances, and a spectacular firework display! Entry to event is completely free!
