The Great Debate Tour
The Great Debate Tour is the first national debate forum targeting cultural communities on University campuses across the UK. Now in its 9th year, the Tour is a celebration of diversity and heritage as well as a forum for powerful, thought provoking discussion. With the help of a panel of experts, university students are encouraged to explore issues that our research indicates is most relevant to the audience. Each debate takes place as a question time style event. The debates have been featured in local and national media, with coverage on Sky Channel 218 and BBC stations. This year will see us partner with over 30 universities, creating larger debates with universities combining. We are also official Parliament Week partners.
Black History Month
Black History Month in the UK has been celebrated annually every October for the past 30 years. In the UK, black people make up under 4% of the population, so this is a month where we recognise and celebrate the African and Caribbean diaspora. Exeter ACS plan to acknowledge and celebrate the richness and obstacles of our black experience.
Through our social media we will dedicate each week to an important aspect of black culture that is often overlooked but should be recognised. The first week will be dedicated to black minority groups such as black LGBTQ+, the second week will be dedicated to black mental health, the third week will be dedicated to black British Caribbean culture and lastly, we want to end this month by celebrating black creatives and inspirational figures.
Stayed tuned for ACS and guild affiliated events that we have this month! We are introducing our Spilling The Tea series: the mental health edition, an ACS social night, nationwide Great Debate Tour and chilled movie night to wrap up the month.
