It is the role of the president to ensure the smooth running of the society by managing the executive team. As president, you should have exciting goals for the year ahead with a clear plan of how you expect to achieve these. It is the role of the president to keep in mind the bigger picture, including reviewing activities and events, ensuring that the society is hosting events that reflect the members’ interests, and that the society continues to attract members. The president will handle correspondence with the university, Guild and external partners. Other responsibilities will include filing risk assessments for events, assisting the treasurer in budget decisions, and sourcing grants from the university.
The vice-president will assume responsibility of organising regular committee meetings, taking minutes, and ensure that the committee have clear aims. It will be expected that the vice-president will assume presidential responsibilities if the president is unavailable. Additional responsibilities will include the management of ticket sales, assisting in the organisation of larger events and management of the mailing list.
Social secretary (x2)
It is the responsibility of the social secretaries to organise well run, fun social events. This will include both regular events and larger events. It is expected that the social secretaries will correspond with venues for booking and handle ticket sales for larger events. There will be two social secretaries.
Responsibilities of the treasurer will include filing an annual budget, budgeting of events and handling membership money. The treasurer will work with the president regarding budget decisions. The treasurer should ensure that money is spent correctly so that the society money benefits the members. Other responsibilities will include ensuring that money is being spent correctly and that all transactions are recorded accurately.
The publicity secretary will be responsible for communications to members, including managing social media, handling posters and tickets, and be involved with the mailing list. This role will include correspondence with other societies with the aim of creating exciting inter-society events.
