Aims and Objectives:
We are MathSoc, one of the university’s largest academic societies and the organisation dedicated to Maths students. We strive to bring Maths students together predominantly through socials and sports, but this year we’re going the extra mile to host events with a range of other societies and clubs, as well as introduce a family scheme to help support you with your studies! MathSoc membership entitles you to discounts on our ticket prices and activities! This year the first 300 members will get a free society card for Fever & Boutique. Our membership is at a low price of £7 to ensure the society is accessible for all!
We host a range of socials over the academic year on a fortnightly basis, culminating in our two flagship events, the Christmas and Summer Balls. With socials including themed events, bowling and pizza nights, there’s always an attractive event around the corner!
MathSoc exists to provide its members with the best opportunities during and after your degree. We offer promotion and guidance of upcoming placements, internships and graduate opportunities, specifically tailored to Maths students. We also host speakers throughout the year from relevant companies such as the Met Office, EY and Zurich. This year we are introducing a family scheme to help support members with their studies, as well as providing them with the opportunity to meet people from other year groups.
You can also represent MathSoc in a number of sporting capacities! Intramural opportunities exist in football, badminton, netball and more! Plus, the cost is minimal in comparison to the main sports clubs. MathSoc teams are in place for all abilities, and intramural sport gives you the chance to play at a convenient time with your coursemates.
