About Us

Ciaran Algar and Jamie Francis Live!

Monday 24th February 7.30pm

Come and see these two fantastic musicians live with the Folk Society!

Monday 24th February in the Music & Drama room, with doors opening at 19:00. Tickets are £12, or half price if you are a Folksoc member, and can be found below.

Aims and Objectives:

  1. Hold 2-3 ceilidhs for Folk Society members in Terms One and Two, as well as at least 1 in Term 3.
  2. Provide a wide range of fun, engaging events for our members.
  3. Spread Folk culture as best and as widely as we feasibly can, getting a range of people to experience and participate in it.

We are a society of passionate dancers and musicians celebrating all things Folk. The folk tradition is inclusive and welcoming and we're no different. Regardless of ability or experience, if you’ve got energy, you’re perfect! The society originated as the Folk Dance Society 60 years ago, today we not only dance, but also hold music and song sessions, run dancing workshops and are the home of Pigasus, the FolkSoc Ceilidh Band.

Those interested in music form part of Pigasus, who play for our solo and joint ceilidhs. Pigasus can also be hired for external gigs and are always happy to play for ceilidhs, functions, gigs and weddings elsewhere in the University and local area as we have done in the past. New members are always welcome!

In 2015, we hosted IVDVF (the Inter Varsity Folk Dance Festival), and hosted its smaller sibling festival ICBINI (I can't believe it's not IVFDF) in 2016.

If you are interested by any of this, or just curious as to what we do, then come along and get involved!
