About Us

Politics, Philosophy, and Economics Society is one of the fastest growing, and most exciting societies on campus. If you’re studying PPE, or you simply have a passion for politics, philosophy, or economics, then this is the society for you!

Exeter University PPE Society is a community of students who are passionate about Politics, Philosophy and Economics. United under a shared passion, we gather to learn, socialise, and debate. Our society is split into two parts, academic events, and social events. Academic events give our members opportunities to listen to distinguished speakers, increase their employability opportunities, and network with students and firms. Social events give our members an opportunity to form bonds with like-minded individuals, and have fun! With 23 events last year, ranging from our Hollywood Winter Ball, to talks by top think tanks such as the Adam Smith Institute, PPE Society has something for everyone.

Despite the challenges caused by Covid-19 we are determined to keep up our goals of making PPE one of the best societies in Exeter and we will continue to connect like-minded people together whilst keeping everyone’s safety at the forefront of our decision-making.

We are very excited for what we have planned for the upcoming year and the committee are already hard at work bringing in new speakers, new stash and new socials! We will continue to update our Guild page and our Facebook page with any upcoming events or news.

With membership now at 140+, our society is one of the fastest growing academic societies on campus. Our goal is to unite these members, and give them opportunities to learn, socialise, and debate through a shared passion for politics, philosophy, and economics.

Every year we host a vast variety of academic events. We host inspirational speakers that discuss important topics to help explore new perspectives, we host graduate employers and firms to help further our member's career opportunities, we have external trips to other universities to help our members network with like-minded individuals, and loads more!

Past Academic Events:

An Introduction to the Civil Service Fast Stream Graduate Programme -  talk by the Civil Service

'How should we regulate sex work?' -  talk by the Adam Smith Institute (top UK think tank)

Warwick PPE Symposium  -  society visit to Warwick PPE Society

Hiscox Data Challenge - PPE entered a team into this data analysis challenge. We visited the Hiscox building in London. Our team won two prizes!

We also host a variety of exciting socials! Over the terms we host bi-weekly socials, giving everyone an opportunity to meet up and play some games with old and new friends. The terms culminate in our famous Winter Ball for term 1, and our End of Season Dinner for term 2.

As a result of COVID-19, we have had to transform our term 1 socials into virtual socials, but worry not, our Social Secretaries have been working hard to come up with games that work online, and new ways making friends in the society.

PPE Families:

One of the highlights of PPE Society is our PPE Families. PPE Families are smaller groups of members that we create where committee members act as 'parents'. PPE Families are groups that can have pre-drinks before social events, act as teams for socials, or even meet up outside of regular events. This is a fantastic opportunity to form closer bonds with members, and have better access to committee members.
