Exeter Student Paediatric Society (ESPS) is a continuation on the South West Undergraduate Paediatric Society (SWUPS), formerly PUPS. We are based in Exeter and are currently working on bringing teaches to PCMD and UEMS students from Doctors, nurses, students and all other medical professionals who can teach us a thing or two about children in medicine.
We have recently, in 2017, created a new branch of ESPS called 'Teddy Bear Hospital'. The idea behind ‘Teddy Bear Hospital’ is that medical student volunteers run sessions in local primary schools with the aim of familiarising young children with medical professionals and equipment. Children bring in cuddly toys that act as “patients” and the medical students (also known as “teddy bear doctors”) work through the different examinations and tests that would need to be performed on children (or the toys) if they came to hospital.
