The Exeter European Law Society, EELS, provides a friendly, accessible network of students who are interested in European and International Law.
We run presentations and trips to International Institutions for example the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, European Court of Justice in Luxembourg and The Hague. We also run various events with International Law Firms.
Additionally, we provide specialist support for students on the Maitrise, Magister and Study Abroad Law courses by providing an informal mentoring scheme with 2nd and 3rd year students. This means answering any queries or just friendly advice on how to make the most of studying your subject! The society exists to encourage and facilitate your learning experience, so we are here to cater to student's needs. An important part of this involves keeping in touch with fourth years on their year abroad and relaying information back to those in Exeter.
This year we introduce the online publication of a "Guide to your First Year" as well as a termly Newsletter to keep student's updated both on Society information as well as news in the legal world. We would like to display the range of options available after University, so we aim to host guest speakers comprising academics, lawyers and non-lawyers who lead different and interesting careers.
Finally, we run frequent and varied socials to help encourage the community spirit on which EELS is founded. From horse riding trips to pub gatherings to beach trips to film viewings, we intend to create new experiences, and give students ample opportunity to get to know each other.
