Aims and Objectives:
Welcome one and all to the Exeter University Classics Society!
We are a society dedicated to providing a means through which Classics students and anyone interested in Classics can meet up, socialise and participate in events both closely or loosely related to Classics. 2018/19 was a fantastic year, and highlights included our production of "The Frogs", our Lectures & Society Charity Pub Quiz in term one and, of course, the trip to Istanbul.
The Classics Society's reputation has increased each year, owing to our wide range of social events such as the toga social, the trip abroad, and of course our bi-annual balls. In addition, the Society has an active sports department, fielding successful netball, rounders, football and touch rugby teams. We have also become notorious for our hugely successful Parent Scheme, in which returning students couple up to 'foster' incoming 1st years in order to act as guides through what can be a confusing but exciting 1st year.
We also work with the University Classics department to provide academic support to our members: this has manifested itself in our Student Tutor Scheme, in which Level III + language students can offer to tutor other lower level students in either Latin or Greek. Our academic efforts were recognised at the Guild Awards 2013, where we were highly commended in the Outstanding Academic Contribution Award.
Come and get involved. 2019/20 is going to be very special indeed!
