University of Exeter Choral Society
Exeter University Choral Society is one of the biggest societies in ExTunes and is the largest un-auditioned choir on campus. We are a welcoming mixture of students and associate members (including alumni, staff and members of the community) who meet to perform various choral works, ranging from Beethoven to Bernstein.
Recent performances have included Puccini's Messa di Gloria, Verdi's Anvil Chorus, Britten's Ceremony of Carols, Brahm's Requiem, Bach's Mass in B Minor, Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Little Organ Mass, Verdi's Requiem, Beethoven's Mass in C Major, Karl Jenkins' "The Armed Man" and Fauré's Requiem. At our most recent concert, we performed Puccini's Messa di Gloria and Verdi's Anvil Chorus, collaborating with the university's Symphony Orchestra!
Our performance of Karl Jenkins' "The Armed Man" in Exeter Cathedral earned us the invitation from Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) to take part in the United States premiere performance of Karl Jenkins' "The Healer" at Carnegie Hall in January 2015.
This Summer, we are hosting a 'Devon: Come and Sing' workshop on 2nd June, featuring movements from Handel's Messiah and Coronation anthems, plus John Rutter's Gloria and anthems.
We rehearse every Monday from 19:30 to 21:15 at Kay House Duryard, Streatham Campus (EX4 4RG), and you can frequently find us at The Imperial afterwards!
Our first rehearsal for the new 2018/19 academic year is TBD, and we will have more freshers social events lined up too!
We welcome everyone - students, staff and community members - at any level.
To join, please either:
1) Buy membership online and come to rehearsal to collect your welcome pack!
2) Come to one of our rehearsals and we will sign you up!
You will also need to purchase a Music card to be a part of any music societies on campus.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the committee on firstname.lastname@example.org, or message our Facebook page.
