About Us

  University of Exeter Choral Society

Aims and Objectives:

Exeter University Choral Society

  1. Create an inclusive and welcoming environment in which to make music together
  2. Improve members' musical ability, both in terms of vocals and theory
  3. Encourage greater interaction between the different members of society, from out student body to those living in and around Exeter

Exeter University Choral Society is one of the biggest societies in ExTunes and the largest un-auditioned SATB classical choir on campus. We are a welcoming mixture of students and associate members (including alumni, staff and members of the community) who meet to perform various choral works!

Recent performances have included Handel's Messiah, Puccini’s Messa Di Gloria, Verdi's Anvil Chorus, Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, Brahms’ Requiem, Bach's Mass in B Minor, Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Little Organ Mass, and Verdi's Requiem. At our most recent event, we hosted a workshop, performing snippets of our pieces for this upcoming year: Handel’s Messiah and John Rutter’s Gloria!

Our performance of Karl Jenkins' "The Armed Man" in Exeter Cathedral earned us the invitation from Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) to take part in the United States premiere performance of Karl Jenkins' "The Healer" at Carnegie Hall in January 2015.

We rehearse every Monday from 7-9pm at the Mary Harris Memorial Chapel on Streatham Campus (EX4 4SB), and you can absolutely find us at The Imperial afterwards!

Our Spring term concert will be a performance of John Rutter's Gloria (among other pieces TBC) on 29th March at 7pm in Exeter Cathedral. Tickets can be bought online (once set up), or at the door. There will be a Facebook event for this concert, so once that's created please click Going on the event to keep updated!

When we’re not singing, we’re hosting a boastful range of socials, including (but in no way limited to): rock climbing, cycling, club nights, board gaming, salsa nights, picnics, trips to the Northcott Theatre, and trips to Dartmoor! If you’re interested in a committee role, we’re still looking for a Social Secretary, so let us know if you think you’d be a good candidate!

We welcome everyone - students, staff and community members - at ANY level, whether you only practice in the shower/car, or you’re practically a virtuoso! To join, or for more information, feel free to contact the Committee via Messenger, or at

To join, please come along to a rehearsal to meet everyone/sing with us, then either pay us in cash at our next rehearsal, or sign up online using the link above! Please note: you will also need to purchase an ExTunes music card to be a part of any music societies on campus:

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the committee on, or message our Facebook page.
