About Us

Be The Change is a society campaigning for sustainability in Exeter, both on and off campus.

We provide a supportive space for students to tackle issues we are passionate about, with a focus on environmentalism. Being member-led, we are always looking for new projects and welcome anyone with an idea or passion for making change!

Some examples of past projects include:

  • Radio programmes with Xpression FM specialising on intersectional environmentalism, ecological grief and climate anxiety, and food and plastic current issues.
  • Creation of a database showcasing all sustainability related modules at Exeter.
  • Sustainable fashion: Sustainable Fashion Insta Page (@sustainablefashion.exeter)
  • Wellbeing: Wellbeing and Climate Emotions Insta page (@ecogrief.exeter); radio shows; interviews from lecturers; Ecogrief Guest Speaker event
  • Plastic pollution: Plastic Free Fortnight; EcoBricks campaign
  • Informed food choices: vegan Instagram page, petitions to ban beef on campus
  • Intersectional Environmentalism working group
  • Working with the Exeter University's Sustainability team to ensure student's voices are acknowledged within the University environment
  • Setting up and running our blog, which encourages all members to write about any aspect of sustainability and environmentalism they are passionate about

One of our other projects is VegShare, which provides the opportunity for you to collect local, organic and cheap veg boxes on campus! Find out more here: https://www.facebook.com/vegshare

We also love to collaborate with other socieities from Exeter and further afield. Last year, we collabed with Fem Soc on a sustainable periods campaign and this year we are excited to collab with an environmental society at KCL on an environmental conference, with the aim to make environmentalism education accessible to all students and to create a platform for likeminded students to connect.

We have weekly meetings to work on our projects, and enjoy a good social – usually with pizza!

So if you're enthusiastic about making a difference, we would love to have you on our team!

Our 2021/22 Aims and Objectives:

  1. Continue to facilitate members to make a sustainable and ethical difference socially, economically and/or environmentally, using our project-based approach to maximise high-quality and lasting changes.

  2. Ensure that our environmentalism is intersectional and amplify the work and voices of minority community members.

  3. Support the wellbeing of our members while accommodating their goals. Additionally, instilling leadership, negotiation and other 'core competencies' in our members.

  4. Work closely with the university and organisations in the wider community to foster positive relationships and make positive change.
