About Us

About Us:

Welcome to Exeter RAG! We are the largest student - led fundraising group at the University of Exeter, with a huge membership of students from a wide variety of backgrounds. RAG stands for ‘Raise and Give’ and our aim is to raise as much money as possible through as many daring, innovative and exciting ways we can think of and we want you to join us!

We offer our members the chance to engage in a range of exciting activities! With six challenges, stretching across the globe, you can embark upon the adventure of a life-time and put yourself to the test physically and mentally. Alternatively, you can support causes closer to home by getting involved in the many events that take place on campus, including the mighty ‘Jailbreak.’ At the very least, come to one of our socials; there is something for everyone - whether it be a bar-crawl, or a quiz, we run a huge range of events for you to take part in and help us raise money for some incredible charities!

Last year, we raised a huge amount of money and this year we are aiming to raise even more and would love for you to join us! Whether you want to be in the middle of all the action or get behind the scenes, RAG has something for everyone! If any of this sounds like your kind of thing, keep reading and find out more about how you can get involved!

A message from our Presidents:

Welcome to Exeter RAG 2020-21! We are the largest student-led fundraising society on campus and this year we have some great opportunities for you to get involved with! These vary from a number of amazing challenges all over the world, to brand new charitable events (all safe from the Rona!), to a number of regular great socials. This year we want to build up the RAG community and encourage everyone to get involved as much as possible so you can meet like-minded people and (although it does sound cheesy) your best friends at uni.

In this time of uncertainty it's more important than ever to show support for the charity sector. We really hope that this year we will raise as much money as possible and raise awareness for some incredible causes.

If none of that makes you want to sign up, we don’t know what will! But whatever it is you choose to do with RAG - you will make a massive difference to a wide range of local and international causes. We are incredibly proud to lead the passionate people who make Exeter RAG the success that it is; we hope you will join us this year ??

Aims and Objectives:

  • Our main objective this year is to build the RAG community and recruit more passionate individuals so that RAG can continue for many years to come.
  • We will raise as much money as we are able to throughout 2020/21 for our nominated, campaign and challenge charities.
  • We will support a broad range of both local and national charities to raise awareness of lots of causes relevant to the student population of Exeter.

Our Nominated Charities:

The Student vote for our nominated charities is open and will close at 9pm on Friday 25th September. Make sure you vote for the charities you would like to see RAG support this year! The shortlisted charities are:

  • St Petrocks

  • Dogs for Good

  • Alzhemer’s Research UK

  • Julian House

  • Student Minds

  • Refugee Action

Check out our Facebook and Instagram during voting week to find out more about these wonderful charities.

Exeter RAG Challenges

We have selected our 2020/21 Challenges and are incredibly excited to work with our brilliant selected charity partners and help students challenge themselves and fundraise lots of money for their selected charity.

It is so important to RAG Challenges that we:

1. Support a variety of charity causes.

2. Provide a range of challenge locations across the globe.

3. Have opportunities that are accessible to every student budget.

4. That our participants have a brilliant time doing it!

If we had a £1 for every time we heard someone say "taking part in a RAG Challenge is the most rewarding thing I've done at Uni" our charities would be even happier!

UK Three Peaks with Hope for Children

The Three Peaks is one of the most iconic challenges on these fair shores. It offers the opportunity to reach the highest summits in not one, not two but three countries, back to back. From the year-round snowcapped peak of Ben Nevis tucked away in the Scottish highlands, through to a night time ascent of Scafell Pike culminating in a final ascent of the imposing Mt. Snowdon the Three Peaks challenge is a test of both strength of mind and body. Tackling the Three Peaks in the UK will take you up and down over 6000m in elevation, travelling 450 miles between and walking 25 miles over challenging terrain all in one go!

You'll be supporting Hope for Children, a wonderful charity who work to enable vulnerable children to experience a happy childhood by improving their access to education and healthcare, and empowering families to support themselves.

Adventure Triathlon with Play Action International

Home - Play Action International

Take on the challenge of trekking, cycling and canoeing through the foothills of volcanoes and the fabulous River Nile in the brand new adventure triathlon challenge! After a week of activities, then you will transform an empty field into a safe and exciting playground for generations to enjoy, whilst running creative play sessions with the children: teaching them to make the most of their imagination in education and employment.

You’ll be supporting Play Action International, an amazing charity who aim to provide play facilities across East Africa, helping children to make the most out of their childhood. You’ll make a huge impact that will last for years and years to come.

Kilimanjaro with Meningitis Research Foundation

The world’s highest free-standing peak, Kilimanjaro rises alone from the surrounding savanna, reaching a whopping 5,895m above sea level. Situated in Tanzania, Kilimanjaro is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The feeling you get as you climb Kilimanjaro and watch the sun rise over the vast African plains is truly an incredible experience.

You'll be supporting the Meningitis Research Foundation, who help save lives across the UK and around the world, by funding research and vaccines and raising awareness of the dangers of Meningitis.

Budapest Marathon with Marie Curie

Completing a marathon is the ultimate running challenge, and there is no better place to do it that along the banks of the Danube. Take in all the sights of Budapest on the run and the night out after, and experience the luxurious thermal baths to allow your legs to recover.

You’ll be supporting Marie Curie, who provide care and support to those with terminal illnesses and their families. With your help, they can improve the quality of life for these people and help them get the most out of the time they have left.

Dash to Dubrovnik with Amnesty International

Join us on the ultimate road trip adventure! Navigate winding Alpine passes and explore the stunning Mediterranean coast on your journey across Europe. The Dash to Dubrovnik runs from England to Dubrovnik in Croatia and passes through some of the most exciting European sights, including the Disney castle and the Nurburgring. All in a £500 (or less!) car with all your friends! Get that great Insta-worthy content. Freedom awaits!

You’ll be supporting Amnesty International, who help fight abuse of human rights all over the world with detailed research and determined campaigning.
