Exeter's Student of Colour Association, or SCA (formerly known as BIPOC) is a society which aims to promote the inclusivity and the well-being of minority students. While cultural societies exist, our society discusses issues relevant to all minority ethnic students rather than being dedicated to a particular race, culture or continent. Ethnic minority students new to the university often experience a significant culture shock, and we seek to provide a platform to discuss issues which we face and provide a space for students of colour and those sharing our belief in the importance of diversity and inclusivity to connect and collaborate.
This society will take a grass-roots approach to providing a space for students to feel welcome on a campus that is often very different to home. Emphasizing well-being and providing a safe-space for students of colour, we will be furthering dialogue on topics relating to our unique experience, through education, activities and socials. We welcome students of all backgrounds who share our concerns regarding diversity and prejudice, and what we can do to combat its implications on the student body.
