What is Global Brigades?
Global Brigades is the world’s largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. Since 2004, Global Brigades has mobilized tens of thousands of university students and professionals through skill-based programs that work in partnership with community members to improve quality of life in under resourced regions while respecting local culture.
What do we do?
Our mission is to improve quality of life, by being part of the largest student-led social responsibility movement on the planet. We do this by empowering student volunteers from Exeter and under-resourced communities, to resolve economics disparities and inspire all involved to collaboratively work towards a mutual goal.
Who do we help?
We help those in rural communities, in countries where poverty is a huge problem. As Global Brigades is such a large organisation, the communities have already been identified, and relevant contacts have been made to ensure that the communities are aware and accepting of us visiting. Similarly, Global Brigades have native individuals employed within the countries that we travel to, to better ensure our safety whilst out there. While this is a benefit to us, this is also providing those within the country with secure jobs.
What is in it for you?
As Global Brigades offers so many differing trips, there is definitely one that will grab your attention and suit your interests. Going on a Brigade is much more than just volunteering. The lessons you learn about culture, how people in other parts of the world go about daily life, as well as interacting with people from all over the University who are travelling with you.
Speaking about something a bit different in a job interview will unquestionably make you stand out from the crowd. Aside from the above, it is a wonderful opportunity to travel, to make friends and feel like you have made a real difference where it is needed most!
