About Us

Welcome to the Art History and Visual Culture (AHVC) Guild’s page! Art History and Visual Culture Society is a friendly and fun space for individuals with a passion for art and all things visual. It's here to create a system of support and solidarity between all AHVC students, but also to connect people interested in all things art! We intend on doing so through our numerous projects, some that are events spread throughout the year like conferences and informal talks while others might be more constant like socials. Finally, we have some nice surprises planned throughout the year, maybe volunteering opportunities? Exhibitions throughout the Southwest? Trips? Stash? The best way to know would be to follow us on our social media (they are all quite fun I promise)

Get to Know Us:

President: Zara Shaw

Hello, I'm Zara! I'm a first-year from Surrey studying History of Art and Drama as a combined degree. It's an unusual combo I know, but it combines my love of the arts in a really fun and engaging way. One of the reasons I decided to go for this position was because I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to anything arts-related, and I take great joy in sharing this passion with other like-minded individuals. While I'm still learning the ropes, my goal is to make this society an engaging and fulfilling place for anyone who enjoys all things Art Historical, Visual and Cultural. My goal is not to make this an extension of the AHVC course, but rather a place to foster interests and discover new projects, artists and exhibitons while socialising with other cool and interesting people. From the connoisseurs to the casual enjoyers, all are welcome! Let's have fun!

General Secretary: Marie Lie-Nielsen

Exhibition Coordinator/Treasurer: Eleanor Pyrah

Hi, I’m Eleanor. I’m a second-year art history and visual culture student, undertaking a year in employment next year. I decided to go for Exhibition Coordinator purely because I love art, almost as much as I love wine and cheese, and I would like to share this love with the wider community. I consider myself incredibly lucky to appreciate art because instead of falling in love once or twice, or thrice in a lifetime, I can fall in love every day. I get to have a polygamous relationship, just without the guilt... and the sex. Even when I tried to convince myself aged 12 that economics was my passion, art found its way back to me. Or perhaps I found my way back to art, but I would like to think my small passion for economics is shining through as I undertake my second committee position: treasurer.

Anyway, I digress, if you love art as much as I love wine, cheese, and evidently money, then please join this wonderful society.

 Aims and Objectives

 - To reach as many AHVC students as possible to create a real community.

 - Be a useful resource on art and culture for students.

- Hold regular socials in the 3rd term!

- Provide opportunities to see galleries and exhibitons with fellow members.

- Fun Stash!

Our aim is for our members to embrace and share their enthusiam through the activites run by the society. With gallery and museum visits, both in Exeter and in other cities, socials and meetings to meet other members and discuss your own individual interests, you can both learn and enjoy everything Art History and Visual Culture.

You don't have to know all about Art History and Visual Culture to join, just have a love for art, film, photography, design or any of the variety of subjects we love too!
