Extra funding announced for care leavers, care experienced students and estranged students
We are delighted to announce that we have secured additional funding from the University to ensure that care leavers, care experienced students and estranged students can get their time at Exeter off to the best possible start!
This funding will allow us to offer a welcome package for eligible students, helping them to manage some of the financial pressures of starting at University while also supporting them to get involved with University life, for example through funding membership of Guild societies.
If you’re a new undergraduate student who has been in care, or you are estranged from your family, we’d encourage you to contact us as soon as possible to check your eligibility for this scheme and to discuss the support we can offer you.
What included in the welcome package?
For eligible students, the welcome package includes:
- £199 to help with the costs of laundry, travel, food and drink in the first weeks before student loans are paid
- A ‘bedroom box’ voucher for decorating a room and making it feel like home
- A contribution of up to £100 for society memberships, events and activities.
Who is eligible for the funding?
The scheme is aimed at care leavers, care experienced students and estranged students. You can find out more about what this means here.
