This week the University and Colleges Union (UCU) announced the result of their most recent poll. UCU members have voted in favour of industrial action following the proposed changes to USS (the university academic pension scheme), and pay and working conditions. UCU have confirmed that industrial action will take place from Monday 25 November to Wednesday 4 December.
The Students’ Guild will be working with UCU and the University of Exeter to understand what planned action will be taking place, along with what support will be in place for students. The Guild will be consulting with the University and UCU to understand the impact and consequences of any industrial action, whilst also asking students to help the Guild understand what actions can be taken to support them.
Your Academic Rep will be asking for your opinion on the proposed industrial action, what impacts it will have on your studies and wellbeing. Please contact your rep if you would like to find out more information and to give your feedback. Furthermore, please do visit our independent guide at exeterguild.com/strikeaction for full information on the matter and to give any feedback using the online form. Our official poll to inform what actions we take opens at 10:00 on Monday 11 November. It is absolutely essential that we hear from as many students as possible so we are representing the student body as best as possible.
Liv Harvey, VP Activities, said: "It is crucial for students to feedback their thoughts to their academic reps – in doing so we, as the Guild, will be able to put the provisions in place to support your needs and ensure your views are represented".
We would also like to remind students that we are continually feeding back information around mitigation and welfare issues and are working with the University and UCU to ensure that the student experience is the best it can be during this time.
