The Depot: Information for affected students

Following delays to construction at The Depot, a private student housing development in Exeter, contractors will unfortunately be unable to complete the building on time due to health and safety reasons, with housing not being available until early 2020.

Despite this being a development by a private company, with this affecting a significant number of our students, we will be assisting students affected through the next steps alongside the University to help secure alternative accommodation. During this potentially difficult time, our Advice Team will be on hand to offer guidance and support to you. To speak to our Advice Team, contact advice@exeterguild.com.

A Message from our VP Welfare & Diversity, Katie Heard;

As a union, we were disappointed to hear that over 400 students were effectively made homeless with only a few months to go until the start of term. We have been working with the University to ensure that these students – the majority of which are international – are supported during this period. We are pleased with the proactive approach of the providers in this case, with action being taken swiftly and communicated well to resolve the situation.

The University and Guild have made information available to students affected and I would urge anyone who needs support to contact either the Advice Team here in the Guild, or the University. We know this is an incredibly stressful time, but you are not alone and there is support available

Important information for affected students:

Students affected are entitled to a full refund, a goodwill gesture of one weeks rent and your full deposit being returned. Make sure your bank details are correct in your portal, so your money can be delivered to you as soon as possible.

To find out about alternative accommodation, please contact thedepot@crm-students.com. Reallocation will be on a first come, first served basis, so we recommend you get in touch as soon as you can.

This will not affect your VISA as you do not need to provide an address on your CAS Statement. If you have any concerns about this, please speak to the University’s International Office on intoff@exeter.ac.uk or +44 (0) 1392 723405.

To speak to the University’s Accommodation Office, please contact 0300 555 0444 or sid@exeter.ac.uk.
