Students' Guild Statement - Response to Ms Hopkins, Twitter

As is apparent to anybody with a working knowledge of Higher Education, Malaka is an elected representative of the Students’ Guild; an entirely separate body to the University of Exeter. As such Malaka has nothing to do with the University’s proposed building development, which is being consulted upon at present.

We are inclined to question the motives behind this ‘Saudi takeover’ statement of Ms Hopkins, particularly as all partners involved in the University’s project are UK-based and Malaka is a Palestinian member of the student community.

We will support Malaka in reviewing the options available to her in light of Ms. Hopkins’ actions and as the Students’ Guild, we remain firmly opposed to bullying and harassment of any Exeter student.

We call upon Ms. Hopkins to apologise unreservedly to Malaka for the distress she has caused.
