Over the course of Term 1, Societies Council have been working hard to improve the society experience.
Following elections in October, Societies Council has enjoyed a full membership, with elected students currently in post as Societies Officers for each of the 13 different society categories. It’s been fantastic to see the benefit of all Society Forums having a representative to give their feedback in meetings and advise on the societies they know best.
During Term 1, Societies Council affiliated 8 new societies (Tropical Medicine Society, Rounders Society, Cheese Society, Lifestyle Medicine Society, Peep Show Society, Ex4homeless (affiliated as Students4homeless), The Brexit Party Society, UN Women UK – Exeter Society, Save the Children Society and Street Soup Society) and reactivated 2 dormant societies (Global Brigades and Consulting Society) through the new Save Our Societies Process.
They also allocated £6,992.94 of Society Grant funding and £3,388.50 of Music Development Grant funding which will help our societies to run even bigger and better activities!
In their meetings this term, Societies Council have also reviewed and improved the grant application process for Term 2 and consulted on items such as society involvement in elections, society space, Refreshers’ week and the development of society ‘How To’ guides.
If you want to be more involved with Societies Council, take a look at the Guild Council webpages. All Council meetings are open to all students, so do come along if you want to see Societies Council in action or you’re thinking of running for Societies Officer in the Guild elections next term.
