Guild Council (Democracy Update)

Guild Council agrees to employ a paid, impartial Chair for the meetings this year.

Last week saw the first Guild Council meeting of the year, where your Officers approved student trustee appointments, and voted to approve new Byelaws.

These byelaws will ensure that processes are a bit smoother and result in a better student experience for you.

Council also approved appointing an independent chair to oversee the meetings, and we are recruiting now!

We are looking for a current student to attend and fairly chair all meetings of Guild Council and Student Members’ Meetings. If you’re keen to play a part in the decision making of students, then this could be the role for you!

You’ll need to have good public speaking and time keeping skills, along with the ability to remain impartial when facilitating discussions.

Training will be offered for the role to enhance your understanding of how the Guild’s governance operates.

You can find the details and role description here, and you can apply here. The deadline for applications is 12:00 Wednesday 13 October.

If you've got an issue you'd like Guild Council to discuss, we would love to hear it! You can submit agenda items here, or talk to one of your Officers for more info.
