#ExeGoGreen22- Litter pick

Gain valuable volunteering experience as part of our beach clean, or do your bit to keep our community clean by picking up litter when you see it

Why is picking up litter important?

We’ve all been there: you see a nice view and stop for a while to admire the prettiness of the area, but quickly realise that up close there are little bits of rubbish everywhere. More than two million pieces of litter are dropped in the UK each day, injuring or killing wildlife. Find out more about littering in the UK, and the ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ campaign here.

But you can be different! Today, get involved in our Instagram challenge to pick up litter as part of your daily routine. Even by picking up a small amount, you will be helping the individual animals who would otherwise have died because of litter. In fact the RSPCA receives 14 calls per day to animals injured by litter. We all need to take action against littering however it is important to keep yourself safe at all times. There’s some good tips for best practice litter picking here.

You could even take part in our beach clean! Catch the train with us down to the beach at Exmouth, join in with your Students’ Guild community and meet other like-minded people. There’s more details of the beach clean here.
