Candidates put themselves forward for election because they want to make Exeter better for you....
Voting in the Elections for our Full-Time and Part-Time Officers open on Tuesday (16 March). As campaigns are going to be mostly digital this year, we wanted to remind you all about being kind to others, both in person and from behind a screen.
Elections are a very busy and stressful time for the candidates. Candidates put themselves forward for election because they want to make Exeter better for you. It takes a lot of courage and strength to put yourself out there, and we want to support all our candidates and give them the best environment to run their campaigns in. Elections is always a fun week, with plenty of opportunity for challenge and debate, but it should be scrutinising policies not harassing people.
Personal attacks, mocking others or acting in a discriminatory manner is and always will be unacceptable, and we will not tolerate any harassment or bullying. This goes for both online and in-person incidents. We have a Fairness Framework to make sure this election is fair for you, the voters, and the candidates. We would encourage you to call out and report any incidents they may see through the official processes and use Speak Out.
There is always a real person on the other end of your comments who suffer the consequences, whether you see it or not.
