Exciting changes to our Elections

Your Students’ Guild is proud to be democratically student-led. As such, we are excited to announce the first details of next term’s elections for the 2022/23 Officer team! 

These are unique, paid representative roles which provide an incredible development opportunity as you represent students and lead initiatives which enhance the student experience.  

We will be holding elections for the following full-time roles for the academic year 2022/23: 

  • Guild President 

  • Vice President Education  

  • Vice President Liberation & Equality 

  • Vice President Opportunities  

  • AU President (in partnership with the Athletic Union

Exciting Changes to Elections 

This year's Leadership Elections will be like no other. As well as aiming to return to more on-campus elections activity in a covid-secure way, we also want to be bold and look at how we can innovate and improve how we run elections to build engagement with students and ensure we are truly student-led.  

We want to empower you to truly shape what we do as an organisation and what your Officer team work on, and part of achieving that goal means ensuring that your Officer team can be more responsive to student priorities that arise during the year. To facilitate this, we want to ensure that the Officer team’s roles are shaped around key remits but influenced by students all year round.  

This approach means that how candidates participate in the elections will change, with the focus moving away from manifestos outlining what aims candidates would personally like to work on if elected and instead focusing more clearly on how they are suitable for their chosen Officer role and why they would be the best candidate for representing you. This approach hopes to ensure your future Officer team’s work can be more responsive to emerging issues, reflective of changing student priorities, and relevant to students. 

Furthermore, as part of the University’s 2030 Strategy, they are currently exploring how they might reorganise the structure of the University to more closely align their activity around their strategic goals, with proposals to move from six Colleges into three larger Faculties. This of course has a knock-on effect on what roles we can elect, therefore we will be postponing the elections of any part-time roles until the outcomes of the University’s consultation.  

We have also amended the published dates for the Elections to ensure maximum involvement and engagement!  

  • Nominations will open on Monday 7 February and will close Monday 28 February  

  • Voting will open on Tuesday 15 March and will close Thursday 17 March
