Care Leavers and Estranged Student Welcome Pack

Care Leavers and Estranged Student Welcome Pack

We're offering extra support through our Freshers' Welcome Packs for Care Leavers and Estranged Students

Starting university is an exciting step to the next stage of your academic and adult life, but it can also be challenging and sometimes stressful – especially for students who don’t have the support of a family network or who have had other personal difficulties in their upbringing through experience with care.

This is why we are offering a Freshers’ Welcome Pack to ensure that student care leavers and estranged students have additional financial support to assist them in the move to university.

What’s included in the Freshers’ Welcome Pack?

If you are eligible, the University will transfer a total of £199 into your bank account, which will help with cost of laundry, travel, food and drink, and access to sports facilities in the first few weeks of university.

An example of how this money can be spent is as follows:

Laundry Costs

£25.00

4 week Megarider bus pass

£58.00

University Food & Drink outlets

£50.00

General food costs

£50.00

Exeter Athletic Union Sports Pass

£16.00

TOTAL

£199.00

The Welcome Pack will also include a £90 voucher from the university to buy a bedroom  box to enable you to personalise your new accommodation.

You are also entitled to up to £50 of extra financial support for Society Memberships and Events Activities. This will ensure you are able to get involved with the number of activities during Freshers’ Week without having any financial concerns!

Who is eligible for the Welcome Pack?

This scheme is aimed at student care leavers, care experienced students, and estranged students who are joining the University of Exeter. To find out more about what this means and who might be eligible, head over to our website.

If you are joining us as a new undergraduate student and you think that this might apply to you, please contact us as soon as possible to check your eligibility for the package and to discuss any further support that you might need.

How do I apply for the funding?

To request an application form for this additional funding, please contact claire.botham@exeterguild.com who will be able to assist you with your application and answer any further queries that you might have.
