2019 was an amazing year - let's look back at some of our highlights, including some fantastic Officer wins!
Patrick, Guild President, was central to the University signing the Global Climate Letter, a commitment to combating the climate emergency. This will be built into the Guild's new strategy to take us into the new decade.
Katie, VP Welfare, has been working to coordinate the staying safe resource page, providing students with resources and key contacts to help stay safe. This page will continue to be developed, so keep an eye out in 2020!
Late Submission- Guild Win!
Penny, VP Education, was instrumental in the introduction of a new policy reducing the penalty for late work submission – we’re delighted students won’t be punished as harshly for things out of their control!
Big Society Hello
Liv, VP Activities, kick started the year for societies with the Big Society Hello ,which provided committees with the resources they need to be successful! We’ve loved working with societies this year and can't wait to see what they'll get up to in 2020!
Estranged Student Solidarity Week
Sunday, VP Postgraduate, oversaw the hugely successful Estranged Students Solidarity Week – it was brilliant to see so many students helping to raise awareness!
Freshers’ Week and Fair
Freshers’ Week was an action-packed week, with 93% of students loving the society events they attended! This year we also hosted Freshers' Fair on both Streatham and St. Luke’s campus, giving students the chance to sign up to societies (we’ve got a whopping 10,106 getting involved this year!!), enhance their employability and pick up some freebies!
Zero-Waste at the Guild Shop
The Guild Shop introduced its zero-waste concept based off student feedback and has been hugely popular! We can’t wait to see more of this sort of thing in 2020!
UCU Strike Action
With UCU voting in favour of strike action from 25 November-4 December, over 2,000 students voted to support the cause of the industrial action. As a result, we acted to ensure mitigation was in place, students could lobby University management and regular updates were provided.
Here's to 2020 - it's going to another cracker!
