We are deeply concerned about the recent reports of drink spiking incidents that are occurring on nights out across the country and Exeter. As your Officer team and Students’ Guild, we take this very seriously. The safety and wellbeing of all students is our priority.
We strongly condemn drink spiking, this behaviour has no place in our community. People who are spiked are never at fault in these situations, it is always the fault of those doing the spiking. We want to ensure that students feel safe on a night out and have a good time by making sure that bars and venues are doing everything in their power to protect our students.
How you can get involved to raise awareness, show solidarity and help make change:
Virtual Let’s Talk: Nights Out Tuesday 26 October 16:00-17:00. An opportunity for students to raise concerns, give feedback and share ideas about what we can do to improve safety and create change in Exeter. If you’d like to attend, you can find out more information including the Zoom link https://www.exeterguild.org/ents/event/40348/
‘Girls Night In’ student-led boycott on Monday 25 October hosted by Exeter Girls Night In and you can find more information on their Instagram @officialgirlsnightinexeter.
In addition, we are also working with the student-led group Sit Down ‘n’ Shut Up on an event that will sit alongside the boycott on Monday, more details to come shortly.
We are following this issue closely and talking to the University and other key stakeholders. We stand in solidarity and support of anyone who has been impacted by drink spiking. You can find resources and information at https://www.exeterguild.org/advice/welfare/drinkspiking/
