Starting University Life at Exeter
From packing the essentials to moving in to your new accommodation, there is a lot to think about before you start your time at the University of Exeter.
Below is a list of things to think about before you begin your time with us:
Last Minute Packing
Remember to pack all the essentials for your flat or house including mementos of home, two sets of bedding and some snacks to share with your new flatmates. It’s a good idea to wait until arrival to buy kitchen equipment together with your flatmates. Nobody wants a kitchen with 5 kettles and no can opener.
Check University Requirements
Before you arrive, make sure you have all the necessary paperwork and documentation required for starting life as a student here at Exeter. You don’t want to be turning back half way down the M5!
Plan Your Money
We know it can be easy to get carried away in Freshers’ Week, but it’s important to make sure you don't spend all your budget in the first couple of days! Please be mindful that your student loan won’t arrive until term starts (23 September) so now is the time to budget for your activities and Freshers’ Week. After that, you'll have a whole term ahead of you before another loan instalment comes in!
Arrive at your pre-booked time to collect your keys and find your room. Our Welcome Team (the volunteers in the pink T-shirts – you can’t miss them!) will be on hand to help you move in. Once you're in, it'll be time for you to meet your new flatmates! Remember - everyone is in the same boat, and don't worry if you're nervous!
Three questions that’ll get you a long way through Fresher’s Week are: What’s your name, where are you from, and what are you studying?
