Exeter: Your New Home

Home from home

So, this is it, you are officially on your way to the University of Exeter and the Students’ Guild – we cannot wait to welcome you to your new home!

Exeter is a beautiful, friendly, buzzing city with a fast-growing population, long history and exciting social scene. Whether you’re new to Exeter or are Devon born and bred, now is the time to get to know your local city as a new member of the community.

Welcome to the Students' Guild

So, who are we?

We are the students’ union here at Exeter, and we exist to make your university experience as amazing as possible. We are led by students, for students, with our five Full-Time Officers representing your interests at the heart of everything we do.

And what do we do?

Quite simply, we want to help you have the best possible experience at Exeter. Whether you’re on Streatham or St. Luke’s campus, you can join societies, vote in elections, give academic feedback, get food and drink at our outlets and access our support services, to name just a few of our purposes!

Freshers’ Week and Starting University life at Exeter

Freshers’ Week is to help you settle in to university life, find your way around and help you to meet new people. The week is packed with events and tasters for you to try, opportunities to make new friends, and also some compulsory things you need to do before you begin your course.

We have a range of Welcome Events throughout Freshers’ Week and into Term 1 - check out what's on. You should also come and find out more about the many groups, societies and activities at one of our Freshers’ Fairs at Streatham or St. Luke's Campus.  Both events are your chance to find out more about societies, talk to students who are already involved and sign-up to the groups you want to get involved in for the year. Remember, you don’t have to sign up at the Freshers’ Fair - you can sign up online at any time until March 2020, so don’t feel like you have to make final decisions if you aren’t 100% sure.

Top Tips to Making the most of Freshers’ Week:

Try something new

Societies will be putting on taster sessions throughout Freshers’ Week, giving you the perfect opportunity to broaden your horizons!

There’s so much to see on both of our campuses and in Exeter! Take some time to take in your surroundings – you’ll feel at home in no time.

Go to a Freshers’ event

Having fun is a huge part of Freshers’ Week – there are a variety of events throughout the week, such as Freshers’ Ball, for you to get involved with and let your hair down!

The Students' Guild has freshers' wristbands avaliable, saving you money and gaining entry to several unmissible events throughout September!

Make plans

We know starting University can seem daunting, but remember, everyone is in the same boat. If you meet someone you like, make plans with them – you may have just made a friend for life!

Head to Freshers’ Fair

Going to Freshers’ Fair is an absolute must! This is your best chance to speak to loads of societies and sign up to the ones you’re interested in. You can find out more here!

Treat yourself to lunch

We’ve got some delicious food options for you at the Guild. Whether it’s one of our famous wraps at Comida or a Pieminister pie at the beloved caravan in DH1, make sure you see what we’ve got to offer on campus.
