I am Izzy, a final year Drama Student, and I am passionate about producing positive change as your next VP Opportunities.

Whilst at Exeter I have held three different committee positions (president, social secretary and fundraising manager) and worked on over eighteen society theatre productions in ranging roles including producing and marketing.  These opportunities have given me vast experience in managing teams, working with the Students’ Guild and following through projects successfully. This year, as president of the Drama Society, I have led the committee in navigating the restrictions of the pandemic successfully; we have maintained our membership numbers, expanded the range of workshops we provide and have continued a strong focus on diversity and inclusion. For more information visit my website! 

Diversity & Inclusivity 

Systemic barriers must not stand in the way of student opportunity.  The voices of ALL students will be heard. 

  • Ensuring all aspects of the Accessibility Pledge are met, for example Guild events and online content will cater to accessibility needs including British Sign Language translators, accurate live captions, wheelchair access, hearing loops, image descriptions and video transcripts.

  • A Member- led initiative will encourage society committees to work with members from minority groups, BAME, LGBTQ+, international students and members with disabilities to create events which celebrate diversity and inclusion.

  • Accessibility Funding will be available for societies to help make their events accessible and inclusive, in line with the aims of the accessibility pledge.

  • Monthly campaigns will be set up in collaboration with societies to celebrate diversity and inclusion.


Safe Opportunities 

Improve safety for students on and around campus and refocusing publicity to raise awareness for current safety services.

  • Shuttle buses at night will run from night clubs and campus to residential areas.

  • Expanding Nightline services to include a ‘Night Walking Call Service’, enabling students to talk to someone whilst walking home.

  • A reformed complaints procedure designed to minimise the emotional impact on students

  • Extended harassment training for Guild staff to better support committees and societies. 

  • Free, recycleable Spikeys will be available to societies and venues to help prevent the use of date rape drugs. 


Clarity & Support 

The Student's Guild needs to be less bureaucratic to support students effectively in the transition back to in-person activity. I will ensure increased clarity which reaches societies at an individual level. 

  • Improved diversity, accessibility and welfare training will be facilitated by a dedicated external company, with expert-led talks continuing throughout the year and an online recognition system for committee members to log their training.

  • A monthly ‘Society Rep Feedback Group’ with Guild staff and volunteer representatives from committees. Circulated meeting minutes will maintain clarity.

  • Guaranteed meetings for larger scale events to answer questions and discuss feasibility. Follow up meetings will ensure support throughout the process.

  • An improved ‘Committee Resource Bank’ will include sustainability tips, online and in person event ideas, wellbeing resources, and improved templates for risk assessments, budgets, and emails.  A streamlined activities system will ensure its simplicity and effectiveness.
