Prashant Nair Business College Officer (He/Him)

I'm Prashant Nair, and I'd like to be your next Business College Officer. As a postgraduate student at Exeter, I've noticed and experienced personally that it's not always easy to settle down as an international student, especially in this pandemic. I believe that much more can be done to improve the support available to students who live thousands of miles away from home. No one should feel isolated; just because you haven't grown up here, it doesn't mean you're not here.

Experience

  • Co-organizer of TEDxSydenhamCollege
  • Placement Cell Coordinator.
  • Advisor of BMS Society.
  • Director of Yountre20 a BMS Initiative.
  • NIEM Super Event Manager of the year 2020.

The Seamless Transition of International Freshers

I intend to set up a standardized system across colleges to hold international fresher events before the fresher week. This will allow international fresh people to get to know each other first, to adapt to the new culture, and to form an international community. I will also set up a mentoring scheme for foreign students where older students will counsel beginners on bank accounts, phone contracts, and transition to British culture.

Improved International Welfare

I would ensure that all international reps are well-trained so that they can be the first port of call for international students and/or that at least one peer sponsor in each college is an international student. I will also organize regular meetings for international reps across colleges so that reps are aware of their role and can share ideas between colleges. I will campaign to expand access to summer residences and storage space for foreign students.

Greater Racial Diversity

I will campaign for increased funding and more scholarships for international students to come to Exeter and increase the number of social events for international students to set up an international network when they arrive. I would incorporate the practices of various cultural communities to create a more unified foreign climate, raise cultural understanding and celebrate ethnic diversity by organizing more culturally specific (e.g. cultural balls/dinners) and inclusive events. Make your time worth it! You are here for a good time because long the road short the life.
