Why am I running?

During my time at Uni, I very often had to figure out everything on my own, simply because I had no idea who to turn to. It took me a while (2 years!) before I figured out that the Guild was here to help. I feel like this is something a lot of students go through. I want to change that. If there is one thing you should take away from my manifesto, it’s that I am here to help YOU.

What is my plan?

If elected, there are three main things I would like to work on:

  • Mitigation: the current mitigation system is too unforgiving. It does not consider a lot of conditions that could actually impact your quality of work, and that you have no control over. If elected, I will work on and advocate a system for mitigation that is kinder and more trusting, culturally aware and more accessible.
  • Attendance: As an International student, I have had my fair share of experiences with the University’s attendance emails. While I understand why it is in place, if elected I would work on a kinder system for monitoring attendance, that focuses on the students’ wellbeing and the reasons why they are not in attendance first, rather than the consequences for their lack of attendance.
  • Decolonising the Curriculum: While students in the Humanities have done an amazing job advocating for decolonising the curriculum, I have yet to see anything about decolonising STEM. If Elected, I would continue to support the Humanities in their endeavour, but also help STEM begin to decolonise its curriculum, by recognising the scientific contributions of Scientists of Colour to science.

Why vote for me then?

I am determined to help every Exeter student with any difficulty they may experience in their degree.

In my first year, I didn’t even know what the Guild was. Since then, I have had plenty of time to figure out who in the Uni is here to help, and I would not have made it this far without them. I want to pay it forward, so to speak. I want to be a voice for all students. I am here to help you with anything related to your degree.
