Regulation of Student Ideas

Complaints are not accepted on Student Ideas except where they relate to comments on each page; complaints about proposals which have been approved and turned into Student Ideas will not be accepted.

Complaints about comments can be made in the event that the comments break the following regulations:

  • Unlawful;
  • Vulgar, beyond mere swearing or minor offense;
  • Discriminatory.

Complaints will be answered in 48 hours. Whilst the Guild does not wish to prevent members from having their say in democratic debate, the regulations will be actively used to delete comments which cross the line.

All complaints and comments which are found to violate the regulations will be sent to DVP Democracy & Governance, the VP Activities and/or Democracy & Governance Council with a suggested outcome, for student-led decision-making on the active Student Ideas votes and discussions.

Procedure on complaints about comments

We reserve the right; at the sole discretion of the Guild, to restrict access to individual Student Ideas to logged in student members only in order to protect individual data or prevent the public dissemination of information which would otherwise be deemed subject to ‘take down’ notices under defamation law. Where this course of action is taken, students are advised that they would be the publisher of any defamatory comment and liable at law for such content should they reproduce sections of the Guild website without the written prior consent of the Guild.

The views and opinions expressed in the proposals and comments in Student Ideas are those of individual student members of the Guild, and do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions held by the Students’ Guild.

When Student Ideas is not open, all students can still get involved in change by speaking directly to:
