Societies

There are currently more than 200 student societies affiliated to the Students’ Guild. Your Guild offers support with all aspects of running a society, from health and safety guidance to help with managing your society finances, and advice on working together successfully as a student committee. You can find the full list of affiliated societies and groups - and sign up to ones you’re interested in here.

We have a total of £20,000 of funding that we distribute to societies each year – you can apply and find more information here.

Societies Executive is the elected group of students that represents societies to the Students’ Guild. They raise common society issues to us, decide on new society affiliations, and distribute society grant money. Each category of society has a representative – find out who yours is here.

If you’re interested in starting up your own society, you can find out more information and submit an application here. Resources for society committee members can be found here.

Student Media

The award winning student media at the University of Exeter Students’ Guild includes the student newspaper Exeposé, student website Exeposé Online, student radio station Xpression FM and student TV Station XTV! Look out for the taster sessions and marquee, no experience necessary!

Exeposé and Exeposé Online

Exeposé is Exeter University’s student newspaper, produced entirely by and for students. Anybody can write for Exeposé, and whether you’re interested in journalism or not, this paper is a great place to get involved. Over the years, our writers, photographers and designers have gone on to work for major publications, including The Guardian, The Daily Mail, the BBC, OK!, Xbox 360 Magazine, and many other titles. Exeposé offers you a chance to try your hand at a variety of sections – from fashion to features, from news reporting to film reviews, there’s something for everyone.

For more information about Exeposé, see the electronic copies of the paper. Exeposé Online is Exeter University’s online news service, produced in conjunction with the student newspaper. Each side of Exeposé has its own committee to help focus the online and paper sides.

If immediate news stories and blogging are more what you are interested in then Exeposé Online is the place to be. Your stories will be available to all students, as well as the general public, and previous stories have been picked up for national newspapers. Check out the Exeposé Society Page to join and for more information.

XpressionFM

XpressionFM is Exeter University’s award winning student radio station. The station runs 24/7 throughout each term, with over 50 shows per week. By joining XpressionFM you can be trained to present live radio and be broadcast across campus. If presenting isn’t your idea of fun, then you can go into production, making jingles and adverts – or maybe you’d rather review new music as it comes in before it’s released in the shops? You’ll get out what you put in.

There are also opportunities for you to attend the national student radio conference, SRACon, and meet industry professionals and fellow student radio enthusiasts. As well as the conference you can enter the prestigious Student Radio Awards, hosted by Radio1 and Global at the IndigO2 in London. For more information about XpressionFM, see the station’s website and society page.

XTV

XTV is Exeter University's student Film and TV station. XTV offers members the opportunity to get involved with any aspect of film and television making. From writing to acting/presenting in front of the camera to crewing and editing. They produce a range of both creative and factual content including live broadcasts and animation.

Members are encouraged to pitch their own ideas, if you're curious about how to be in or make films/TV then join XTV and find out, no experience necessary, just come along and give it a go. For more information about XTV, see the station’s website or visit the society page.
