What are the VP Education Awards?
The VP Education Awards are student-led awards intended to recognise the exceptional work of those involved in Academic Representation over the course of the academic year. These nominations are also an opportunity for staff to nominate the Academic Representatives who they have enjoyed working with.
Nominations are open to all students and staff at the University and Students' Guild.
Am I eligible to nominate someone for a VP Education Award?
Any University of Exeter student or staff member can nominate someone for a Teaching Award including undergraduate, postgraduate (taught and research), international, INTO, year abroad students, lecturers, academics, and professional services staff.
Who is eligible to win an award?
Any student who is a Subject Rep, Subject Chair, PGR Rep, College Officer, and Academic Society President can be nominated for an award.
How do I write a good nomination?
Remember that the only information the judging panel will base their decisions on will be the nominations you submit for your chosen nominee, and how well they match the criteria of the category you rare nominating them for. A good nomination should provide clear examples and reasons for each of the categories criteria which demonstrate why the person you have nominated deserves to win that particular award. Be sure to carefully read the criteria, and submit your nomination for the category where your examples are most appropriate (the more examples the better!).
How long are nominations open for?
Nominations for the VP Education Awards are open from 09:00 on 29 January 2019 to 17:00 on 22 February 2019.
How do the VP Education’s Award for Exceptional Contribution to the Academic Experience and VP Education’s Award for Best Newcomer work?
While nominations for the VP Education’s Award for Exceptional Contribution to the Academic Experience will still be open to all students and staff, it will be decided by a separate panel from the normal judging process. The VP Education’s Award for Best Newcomer will not be open to submissions, and will be decided by the above panel, with evidence and endorsements for shortlisted reps to be collected by the VP Education.
How are VP Education Awards Winners rewarded?
All shortlisted nominees will be invited to attend the VP Education Awards ceremony in Term 2 when the winners will be revealed and presented with awards. All shortlisted nominees will also receive certificates of recognition and anonymised copies of their nominations.
How does the judging process work?
Panels composed of Guild and Student Engagement Staff will shortlist received nominations. Shortlisted nominations will advance to the Super Panel, composed of senior Guild and University Staff, and elected Guild Officers.
Furthermore, a separate panel will judge the winners for the “VP Education’s Award for Exceptional Contribution to the Academic Experience” and “VP Education’s Award for Best Newcomer”.
When will the nominations be sent out?
Any students who received a nomination for the VP Education Awards will receive their anonymised nomination(s) in the week following the announcement of the winners.
What if I want to recognise the efforts of staff members?
The Students’ Guild and FXU have co-hosted the student-led Teaching Awards for the last 10 years to provide all students with the ability to reward and to recognise members of University staff who have demonstrated exceptional teaching, research and support, and facilitate the promotion of best practice from across the University.
