Moving to Exeter

Starting University Life at Exeter

From packing the essentials to moving into your new accommodation, there is a lot to think about before you start your time at the University of Exeter.

Below is a list of things to consider before you begin your time with us:

Last Minute Packing

Remember to pack all the essentials for your flat or house including mementos of home, two sets of bedding and some biscuits to share with your new flatmates. It’s a good idea to wait until arrival to buy kitchen equipment together with your flatmates. Nobody wants a kitchen with 5 kettles and no can opener.

Check University Requirements

Before you arrive, make sure you have all the necessary paperwork and documentation required for starting life as a student here at Exeter. You don’t want to be turning back half way down the M5!

Plan Your Money

With all the excitement around starting University and Freshers’ Week, it can be very easy to get carried away with spending. Please be mindful that your student loan won’t arrive until term starts (24 September) so now is the time to budget for your activities and Freshers’ Week.  You don’t want to caught out with no cash by day three of Fresher’s Week!

Move In

Arrive at your pre-booked time to collect your keys and find your room. Our Welcome Team (the volunteers in the pink t shirts – you can’t miss them) will be on hand to help you move in, giving you time to meet your flatmates. Remember that everyone is nervous- even if they appear settled and confident.

Three questions that’ll get you a long way through Fresher’s Week are: What’s your name, where are you from, and what are you studying?
