RAG CHARITIES
Each year, the students of Exeter University select four charities to support over the academic year.
Alongside these, RAG also have several permanent charities for whom we raise money for every year!
NOMINATED CHARITIES
This year, our Nominated Charities are:
HEADWAY DEVON
Headway Devon is an independent registered charity working to provide essential services to people with brain injuries, their families and carers.
They aim to break down social exclusion and aid reintegration into society for people whose hidden disability has caused their whole world to change— often without warning, leaving a maelstrom of feelings and issues to cope with in a society which still as a whole has little understanding of brain injury.
Headway Devon is a local charity working to improve life after brain injury by providing essential specialist services.
CLIC SARGENT
Every day 10 families are told their child has cancer.
As the UK's leading children's cancer charity, CLIC Sargent is the only organisation to offer them all round care and support.
The support offered to includes:
specialist nurses;
home care; and
counselling services,
for all the family through the toughest of times.
CLIC Sargent is a local and national charity working to provide essential care for children with cancer and their families.
REFUGE
Refuge offers a range of services which gives women and children access to professional support whatever their situation.
Refuge provides high quality services to women and children – from a national helpline to places of safety, from community-based initiatives to counselling to encourage and supporting women and children to regain control of their lives and move forwards in a positive way.
On a local level, Refuge would like to open a local safe house, for women and children who have been the victims of domestic abuse.
Refuge is a national charity, focused on supporting and guiding victims of domestic abuse to help them regain control of their lives.
WORLD CHILD CANCER
World Child Cancer is a registered charity which works to redress the global inequality in the provision of cancer treatment for children.
We help children with cancer in developing countries by providing world class medical expertise and essential funding to improve diagnosis, increase access to medical care and develop better treatments. Childhood cancer is highly curable yet 4 out of 5 children with cancer in developing countries die from the disease. Many cancers are simple and inexpensive to treat and this is our starting point. Relatively small levels of funding can make a significant and lasting impact on survival rates.
World Child Cancer is an international charity aiming to raise awareness and provide enhanced support for young cancer sufferers in low and middle income countries worldwide.
PERMANENT CHARITIES
We support several charities each and every year through our fundraising. These are:
COMMUNITY ACTION
Community Action is one of the student-volunteering organisation within Exeter University’s Students Guild. It exists to provide students with the opportunity to volunteer, enhancing their development and benefiting the wider community. Our students run various different projects working with children, older people and the environment as well as our Citywide scheme where we refer students out to organisations and charities within the Exeter area.
EDDYSTONE TRUST
The Eddystone Trust offers a holistic response to the needs of people living with HIV and their carers, and seeks to raise awareness and understanding through a comprehensive programme of training and education. They provide services for people living with or affected by HIV & AIDS, deliver education and training programmes for professional groups and organise awareness raising activities and events for the wider public. The charity aims to work in partnership with a range of organisations and service providers, voluntary and statutory, within the region.
CANCER RESEARCH UK
Cancer Research UK is the world's leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research. We support research into all aspects of cancer through the work of more than 4,500 scientists, doctors and nurses. Around 285,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed each year in the UK. At Cancer Research UK we are working hard to improve our understanding of cancer and develop better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease.
