Shotgun is a musical theatre society like no other. We are passionate about creating quirky, enjoyable performances in a friendly environment.
Aside from at least two eclectic annual musicals that are always rehearsed and performed to the highest standard, we also provide opportunities for performance that engage our ethos of inclusiveness such as workshops, cabarets, open mic nights and socials. It is integral to us as a society that our members vote for shows and everyone can get involved. We provide unique, one of a kind performances that may be new to members; previous productions include ‘Batboy’, ‘Reefer Madness’, ‘Zanna Don’t!’ and 'I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change'.
Last year, our production of 'Spring Awakening' was selected to be a part of the exlusive National Student Drama Festival, where we were awarded the Cameron Mackintosh Award for Best Musical, Best Newcomer Director and one of our actresses achieved a judge's commendation for musical performance. It was an excellent experience, which we hope to repeat this year. We hope to continue our Society's successes in our upcoming production of 'Rent' in January, and our, as yet, unannounced project in Decemeber!
Whilst we work hard and demonstrate full commitment to achieve fantastic results, the most important thing to us is to have a good time. We organise regular socials - pub sessions, fancy dress nights and formal meals - giving members of our society ample opportunity to get together and bond over a shared appreciation for the wonderful thing that is musical theatre!
