Where to live?
Don’t worry about the distance from campus! After the hills of first year your legs will be made of steel. The benefit is the reduced housing price and the fact that this is still a prime student area. As well as that you have the big Morrisons right on your doorstep, so you can pop down and grab a bit of food.
The main different areas
Newtown
Perfect for St. Lukes students and Streatham students alike, Newtown is based just outside of the city centre, near all the necessary shops and clubs. As well as being in a great location it is also home of the Belmont Pleasure Gardens which is a lovely setting for a picnic in the summer, or a quite study in spring. Why not go watch some live music and play board games at the Bowling Green? Or watch the latest film at the Vue or the Odeon, there’s plenty here to give you a break from your studies.
Pennsylvania
A little bit further from town Pennsylvania is a little more sedate, but there is still enough to keep you occupied (as well as Streatham campus being on your doorstep). Try going for a walk up the the fascinating Iron Age hill fort, or adventuring further than that to get a glimpse of the beautiful Devon countryside. Or go that little further to the Skirmish paintball centre. Whilst there are not many places to eat out, there’s always the Vic just down the road, with its great pub quiz and infamous pizzas you’d be foolish to not pop in once in a while.
Polsloe
Don’t worry about the distance from campus! After the hills of first year your legs will be made of steel. The benefit is the reduced housing price and the fact that this is still a prime student area. St Davids
If you want to be in the centre of town, this one’s for you – you can’t get any closer. With a wide selection of pubs, clubs, cafes and shops you won’t be hard pressed to find a distraction for your work. But if everything becomes that little bit too distracting, you can always hole up in the Exeter Central Library before sneaking a cheeky pint in at the Old Firehouse on the way home. Take a stroll down past the Cathedral to the Quay and experience some of the best views and pizza in Exeter – the Waterfront takes a lot of beating. St James About If you’re not a fan of walking, this one’s for you. 5 minutes from campus, 5 from town, what more could you want? If sports your thing grab a red and white t-shirt and head down to watch the Grecians win (or possibly lose) down at St James’ Park, even if the football doesn’t get you going, then the fans will. Fancy a relaxed pint? Pop along to the Rusty Bike, resplendent with board games and their own scrumpy. Why not relax in the park by Horseguards or pop onto campus and enjoy everything that it has to offer.
