What to do if you can’t pay your Tuition Fees?

We know that people can struggle with paying their tuition fees for a lot of different reasons. However, not paying your tuition fees can have serious consequences for your study so it’s important to act quickly if you think you might be unable to pay your next fee instalment.

How will I know when my next tuition fee payment is due?

The University publish their tuition fee payment dates for each course type here. If you are on a Degree apprenticeship course or an online Keypath programme the payment dates may be different, the university will confirm this with you separately.

How can I make a tuition fee payment?

If you are an undergraduate funded by Student Finance for your tuition fees Student Finance will pay your fees directly to the university.

If you are self-funded or in receipt of a Postgraduate Loan from Student Finance for your degree, you will need to pay your tuition fee to the university. You can make a tuition fee payment here.

Can I get financial help to pay my tuition fees?

Unfortunately, options for paying tuition fees other than through Student Finance loans or self-funding are limited.

The university provides a funding database for international students here. This includes a variety of scholarship schemes however please note you usually have to apply to these well in advance of starting your course.

The Success for All Fund cannot be used to fund tuition fee payments.

What can I do if I am worried I won’t be able to pay my next Tuition fee instalment?

1. Contact the Exeter Fees team as soon as possible to let them know you will not be able to pay in time. You can ask if a payment plan can be set up for your fees so your fee instalments are split into smaller payments over the term. To contact the Fees team log a SID enquiry to the Accounts Receivable team to discuss a monthly payment plan.

2. If you know you will not be able to pay your full tuition fees even if you have a payment plan you may need to consider interrupting until you can pay your fees or withdrawing from your course entirely. You can find more information about interrupting or withdrawing from your course here. You will not be able to graduate or receive your qualification whilst you have debt on your account.

What happens if I don’t pay my tuition fees?

There can be serious consequences if you do not pay your Tuition fees. You may have your university IT account locked and you could have late fees added to the amount you owe.
