Led by Students
The Students’ Guild is the students’ union for students at the University of Exeter, including Streatham Campus, St. Luke’s Campus and Cornwall Campus. The Guild exists to represent the voice of the student body to the University and works to ensure that every student gets the most out of their time at Exeter. Every student is automatically a member of the Guild and can access all the services and opportunities that it provides.
The Guild is a democratic organisation led by four Sabbatical Officers (or ‘Sabbs’ as they are known around campus) who are elected to office each year. Guild Council scrutinises the work of the Sabbaticals and oversees the democratic processes within the Guild including elections and changes to Guild policy and bylaws. Elections are held at key times during each academic year during which students stand for strongly contested positions such as Academic Reps, Guild Reps, positions on Halls Committee and many others.
The Guild provides support to students with problems they might be experiencing during their time at University. The Advice Unit offers a wealth of information and helps with students’ worries and problems, whether they are Uni-related or not. From course problems and landlord issues to health worries or money difficulties, the Advice Unit is here to help and signpost students to expert support where necessary.
Let’s not forget...
The Guild is also a buzzing social hub for our students! With approximately 200 societies on campus there is something for everyone to dive into, either as an experienced devotee or someone wanting to try something new. In the unlikely event that there is nothing tempting on offer, students are encouraged to start their own societies – the list is growing every year!
The Guild also provides a choice of spaces for socials, functions or just grabbing a bite to eat with friends. Our Kitchen Deli serves everything from baguettes, wraps and bagels to pasta, pies and burgers while the Kitchen Café provides a cosy venue for a sit-down breakfast, lunch or dinner with friends. The Ram Bar is the Guild’s own pub, serving speciality beer and cider with classic pub grub and hosting quizzes, karaoke and socials. Last but not least, the Lemon Grove is the Guild’s venue in the heart of Streatham campus, boasting regular live music gigs and the biggest night of the week – Saturday at the Lemmy.
